Port Chester resident Richard A. Olmino, age 21, has been arrested in connection with an assault that happened on Friday, June 23 around midnight at Rye Town Park on Forest Avenue between Dearborn Avenue and Oakland Beach Avenue, the City of Rye Police Department announced on Sunday, June 25.
On the night of the incident, a 16-year-old girl had been conversing with Olmino before he allegedly tackled and assaulted her.
Olmino also allegedly told the victim that he was armed with a knife, but never showed the weapon. A security officer at the park eventually stopped the assault.
At the time of his arrest, Olmino had already been out on bail in connection with an arrest for first-degree criminal sexual act in Suffolk County, police said. After he was taken into custody in Port Chester, he was charged with the following:
- First-degree sexual abuse.
More charges are currently pending, police added.
Olmino was then processed, arraigned, and remanded to Westchester County Jail with no bail. He will again appear in Rye Court on Tuesday, June 27.
Rye Police were assisted in the arrest by the Westchester County Police Department, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
